4th Annual Christmas In The Hills Holiday Extravaganza
Presented by Southern Hills Business Association
Major thoroughfares throughout the Southern Hills area of Shreveport will be decked out with more than 200 outdoor Community Christmas Trees lighted and decorated by youth, civic, scouting, church, and homeowners groups for the enjoyment of the community and visitors who come to call during the month-long run of the event. Some 150 holiday boulevard banners announce the opening of the nation’s favorite holiday season of the year.
The event officially opens Saturday, December 1, at 3:00 p.m. in and around the giant holiday tent located in front of Surplus Warehouse, 2706 Mackey Lane at Jewella with children’s activities, food and product vendors, and music by Flashback.
A highlight of the annual Holiday Extravaganza has to be the Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade produced and sponsored by the Southern Hills Homeowners Association. This year’s parade will roll onto the Summer Grove Baptist Church campus at the first Jewella Avenue entrance south of Innerloop 3132 at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1. The parade features marching bands, delightful decorated floats, children’s groups of all kinds, Santa Claus and his helpers, and even festooned pets walked by their owners. City and parish officials don’t miss out the fun, either, as they parade in their array of specialty vehicles. Last year’s parade goers loved the El Karuba Shrine group’s hillbilly van with everything fastened to it but the kitchen sink and we’re delighted to say they will be back again. The old-fashioned Christmas parade in Southern Hills is a must-see in Shreveport, drawing thousands of parade goers from throughout the region.
